On September 19th, President Obama will attend the UN Summit on Refugees and Migrants. As these discussions happen, hundreds of unaccompanied children and families continue to flee their communities in Central America to face the results of U.S. and Mexican policies that fail to fully recognize their need for protection.
While we're thankful to President Obama for championing the needs and protection of refugees around the world, we ask him to also be a leader by improving the response to the crisis in our own backyard, that of Central American migrants and refugees.
Today, U.S policy towards Central American children and families contradict one another. While the Administration just expanded their in-country refugee program in Central American countries, it has also fully supported increased border enforcement in Mexico, where human rights violations towards Central Americans are well documented, and continues to detain families in the U.S. and deport them back to the very danger they are fleeing from without providing them with access to the protections.
In this webinar, you will receive regional updates, learn more about recent responses by the Administration, and be invited to take action alongside hundreds of people around the country to urge President Obama to be a champion for ALL fleeing their communities to seek safety, including those in our own hemisphere.
