CURC Board Membership Information
CURC is recruiting individuals working in higher education with a desire to advance a just and sustainable society for all by solving the social and environmental challenges of waste to its Board of Directors.

Are you:

Passionate about zero waste policies and waste prevention/diversion practices in higher education?
Interested in leadership opportunities?
Looking to contribute your skills to advance a professional network of campus zero waste practitioners?
Able to dedicate approximately 7 hours of your time per month?

If so, we encourage you to apply to the CURC Board of Directors.  

CURC is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization with a mission to connect and support people advancing sustainable materials management in higher education by fostering the exchange of best practices to achieve zero waste and a circular economy. CURC is governed by an all-volunteer 13 member Board. 

Term
Members serve a 3-year term. An available additional 3-year term is available. (2 consecutive term max)  
Term begins on July 1st. 

Expectations
Board Members are expected to: 

Contribute to the development and coordination of CURC programs and events
Set strategic direction for the organization
Assist in managing the organization’s business affairs
Act as organizational ambassadors at conferences and other professional gatherings

Participate in a monthly Board conference call
Serve on at least one committee with monthly meeting participation
Attend an annual strategic planning retreat
Contribute creatively to the mission and initiatives of the organization
Assist with webinar/workshop facilitation
Familiarity with Google Workspace and Zoom platforms

Recruitment Focus
CURC is looking to recruit individuals who will provide the board with a diverse range of professional experience and knowledge of waste reduction, reuse, recycling and sustainability specific to colleges and universities, and a commitment to advancing justice, diversity, equity, and inclusion at all levels of the Board’s engagement. CURC seeks to increase representation from individuals of color, as well as others whose identities have historically been underrepresented in higher education and/or formal sustainability roles. Additionally, we seek participation from different types and sizes of higher ed institutions across the U.S. and Canada and from a variety of positions within these institutions - including but not limited to sustainability officers, facilities managers, custodial supervisors, and faculty. Enthusiasm for advancing waste reduction, recycling, and sustainable materials management at higher education institutions is a must!
