"GET AHEAD" Application (Tutor/Resident Assistants & Tutor Positions)

The Get Ahead Program is seeking to hire qualified Tutor/Resident Assistants and Tutors interested in supporting an educational and enriching experience for University of Delaware incoming freshman. Our unique program provides daily peer facilitated review sessions that enforces setting high expectations for academic achievement, personal development, and student accountability. Summer staff play an essential role in creating a positive environment for learning that takes place inside and outside of the classroom. Our staff will act as role models, mentors, and tutors.

Program Date: July 8th to August 10th, 2018 (Summer Session 2)

Mandatory Training: June 2018 (2 - 3 days, TBA)

Compensation: starting at $400/week
20- 30 hours/ week, including some weekends

Primary Responsibilities:
• Live in a residential hall for the duration of the program. (optional)
• Facilitate course specific weekly review sessions and study groups.
• Assist in monitoring academic progress of students including daily classroom observations.
• Attend weekly staff meetings.
• Handle and/or refer student disciplinary issues, crisis, and personal issues to appropriate staff.
• Ability to work independently or with minimal direction.
• Assist in maintaining, positive, professional and a safe atmosphere for students and staff.
• Complete and return all required documentation/paperwork in a timely manner.
• Other duties as assigned

• Undergraduate or graduate student currently enrolled at the University of Delaware and in good standing.
• Must be available to work for the entire 5 week program, and attend training. (up to 40 hours/week including some
• Ability to tutor in English (Literature, Composition), or Math (College Algebra, Geometry, Pre-Calculus/Calculus)
• Proficiency in subject(s) to be tutored, earning a letter grade of “B” or higher.
• Residence Hall or related experienced (preferred)
• Have a cumulative 3.0 GPA or higher
• 30 or more earned credit hours ( AP credits not eligible)
• Some experience in tutoring, facilitation, teaching and/or presenting information.
• Some experience supporting students in an educational setting.
