Dir. of Humane Design - Job Application
Center for Humane Technology
We are building a new organization to tackle the problem of how technology manipulates and steers human evolutionary instincts. This is a massive, global problem that affects two billion people and counting. We're working to change the way technology platforms exploit the human experience—enabling addictions, undermining social relationships, spreading propaganda, and manipulating children, to name just a few examples.

Our team is small, skilled, mindful and agile, dedicated to creating humane design standards, policy, and business models that align deeply with our humanity. We partner with an extended team and network across industries, and expect to grow our core team quickly this year. We're looking for generalists with start-up experience who are up for the challenge of working towards the greater vision while simultaneously adapting to what's unfolding in the world.

About the Job
We are looking for an experienced Director of Humane Design to take lead on growing the field of humane technology—technology that aligns with humanity’s best interests:

- Create and curate work that demonstrates humane design
- Convene the world’s best designers to grow the field
- Write persuasively about specific solutions, problems, and principles

The candidate will partner closely with Tristan and other experts from our team to brainstorm, define, produce, and test interactive working prototypes that inspire and engage a wide range of stakeholders including product designers, business leaders, policy makers, and consumers. You will work the wider design community in an open-source, collaborative style; we are all on Team Humanity.

Candidates must have an excellent understanding of design, persuasion, and human psychology, along with the ability to bring ideas to life and build communities around ideas. Strong product and project management skills are crucial, along with outstanding collaboration skills (strong empathy, exemplary ethics, clear oral and written communication skills) and the ability to adapt to rapidly changing circumstances. Candidates should be familiar with all aspects of product development, including testing and focus grouping.

Prior experience shipping widely-used, well-received consumer products is a plus.
Prior experience building and/or organizing communities of designers is a plus.
