Registration for our New Orleans Class and Trip is limited to only 12 CSUCI students. Therefore this application is the foundation of Dr. Anderson's selection process. Getting one of these slots is often competitive, with many factors weighing in (year in school, your motivation for participation, etc.). You will hear back about your application's status by Thanksgiving Week.
ESRM 492 is a 3-unit course, open to all majors with no pre-requisites. We will travel to New Orleans, Louisiana to learn about local culture, conduct wetland restorations, and install community food gardens over ~11 days during Spring Break. We will meet ~5 times before our Spring Break trip on Monday nights from 6-9pm (exact meeting dates will be sent to applicants, but will begin after Week 1). Our exact trip dates are TBD, but will likely run from Thursday March 14 to Sunday March 24. Students are responsible for any arrangements that need to be made for any tests you may miss on Thursday the 14 or Friday the 15. This is a very demanding, tiring, and rewarding trip. After our return, each student will present a poster/video/demo about some aspect of our trip to the campus community late in the semester (usually on a Thursday afternoon in mid April). IRA will cover approximately $950 of your trip expenses, you will be responsible for the remainder (approximately $700). A $100 deposit is due upon your enrolling in the class in early December. All attendees must have health insurance during the time of our trip, be able to lift 40 lbs., capable of hiking over uneven ground for extended periods of time, and be in good physical condition.
Participation is open to all majors and all grade levels, however priority is given to older students who are nearing graduation.
