Drug Addiction is currently the most pressing social issue in Maldives as 57 out of every 100 citizens are effected directly or indirectly. Youth unemployment is at all time high, families and relationships are shattered, while drug related crimes are increasing at an alarming rate. Government has established an institution to fight this pandemic since 1995, first as National Narcotics Control Bureau, and later as National Drug Agency (NDA) with the introduction of Maldives Drug Act 17/2011.

Even though 17/2011 has confirmed a lot rights for the addicts, and responsibilities for NDA, they have failed to execute 17/2011 effectively for over the past two decades, and the result is evident from the society.

Our demands are proper functioning of the system, removal of incompetent personals, hire qualified experts to lead NDA, a proper audit of the NDA, restructure NDA, and mostly importantly, execution of 17/2011 to the fullest. This includes immediate access to treatment, evidence-based treatment, remand center, decentralized community treatment, rehabilitation for women and children and proper aftercare and a lot more.

Therefore, on behalf of myself, my family and friends, I call the authorities responsible to implement 17/2011 effectively and efficiently, and change NDA.  

މަސްތުވާތަކެތީގެ ސަބަބުން މިޤައުމު ވެއްޓިފައިވާ ފުން އަނދަވަޅުން ސަލާމަތްކުރުމަށް، އެންމެ ފުރަތަމަ އަދި އެންމެ މުހިންމު ކަންކަމުގެ ގޮތުގައި ކުރާންޖެހޭ ކަންކަމަކީ ނޭޝަނަލް ޑްރަގް އެޖެންސީ މިޒަމާނާއި އެއްގޮތަށް އަލުން ބަދަލުކޮށް އިސްލާޙްކުރުން ނުވަތަ ރީސްޓްރަކްޗަރ ކުރުންކަމަށާއި، އެއެޖެންސީއާއި އެއެޖެންސީގެ ދަށުން ހިންގާ ސެންޓަރުތަކުގައި އެކިއެކި މަޤާމުތަކުގައި ތިބި ފަރާތްތައް އަލުން މުރާޖަޢާކުރުންކަމަށާއި، އެމަޤާމުތަކަށް ކުފޫހަމަނުވާ ފަރާތްތައް އެމަޤާމުތަކުން ދުރުކުރުމަށްފަހު އެފަދަ މަޤާމުތަކަށް ޤާބިލު ތަޖުރިބާކާރުން ލުންކަމަށާއި، އެއެޖެންސީއިން ދޭ ޚިދުމަތްތައް ދިވެހިރާއްޖޭގެ އެކިކަންކޮޅުގައި ލިބޭނެހެން ލާމަރުކަޒުކުރުންކަމަށް އަޅުގަނޑު ދެކެމެވެ. ވީމާ، އަޅުގަނޑާއި، އަޅުގަނޑުގެ އާއިލާއާއި، ދިވެހި އެންމެހާ ރައްޔިތުންނާއި އަދި އަންނާން އޮތް ޖީލުތަކަށް އޮތް ރައްކާތެރިކަން ކަށަވަރުކުރުމުގެ ގޮތުން، ދިވެހި ރައްޔިތެއްގެ ހައިސިއްޔަތުން އަޅުގަނޑަށް ލިބިގެންވާ ޙައްޤުގެ ދަށުން، އިސްވެ ބަޔާންކުރެވުނު ކަންކަން ކޮށްދެއްވުމަށް އެދި ދިވެހި ސަރުކާރަށާއި ދިވެހިރާއްޖޭގެ ޢިއްޒަތްތެރި ރައްޔިތުންގެ މަޖިލީހަށް ގޮވާލާ އިލްތިމާސްކުރަމެވެ.
