"Phoenix" Fountain Pen for the Revival of Wajima Support and Order Form

Wajima, a vital center for Japanese urushi artistry and urushiware production, is renowned for its community of skilled artisans and artists. However, the catastrophic earthquake that hit the Noto Peninsula in Ishikawa Prefecture on JAN 1, 2024, wrought havoc on the region, devastating numerous urushi-related workshops and homes. In the face of these challenges, the local craftsmen and artists are unwavering in their commitment to rebuild and rejuvenate Wajima’s cherished urushi tradition.

Our workshop, deeply intertwined with the Wajima community, is spearheading an initiative to aid in this revival. One of our artists, who honed his skills in Wajima, now resides in Iwate and contributes significantly to our creations. In solidarity with Wajima’s path to recovery, we are crafting a unique fountain pen adorned with urushi, an embodiment of the resilient and regenerative spirit of the phoenix.

This project is unique; it seeks support for its noble cause, albeit in an unconventional manner. We will not produce a prototype but will commence production based on an understanding of the design and craftsmanship involved. We invite you to partake in this journey, understanding its essence and intent.
