The Phoenix Maki-e Fountain Pen is a made-to-order urushi fountain pen created by Matsuzawa Urushi Kobo / Hoko-an in Japan.

Inspired by the image of the phoenix, this work expresses rebirth, resilience, and quiet brilliance through traditional Japanese lacquer techniques, including urushi coating, maki-e, and hand-painted decoration.

Originally created as a tribute to the resilience of Wajima’s lacquer tradition, the Phoenix has since been ordered by collectors around the world and has become one of our representative bespoke fountain pen designs.

Each pen is produced individually after order confirmation. Because the work is handmade, small variations in color, texture, and expression may occur. These differences are part of the character of urushi and maki-e craftsmanship.
