Explore the terrain and spaces of the Nokomis Naturescape on the guided Nature Walk, and then as a large scale, site-specific dance and movement space. Listen to the trees and tall grasses, the lake and the birds, and to the movements and impulses within your own body - and dance with the Butterflies, bumblebees and caterpillars! Sound and movement on both large and small scale. No experience necessary. All ages and abilities welcome!
Sherry Saterstrom has devoted a major portion of her dance career to movementeducation—first as an Artist-in Residence in public and private schools, and then in her tenure at St. Olaf College where she taught in the Dance Dept. from 1987 to 2016. With a movement fascination reaching beyond just dance and a strong belief that everyone has the right to delight in their own physicality, she created classes around investigations into body awareness through experiential anatomy and explorations of “play” as a foundation for movement technique. Sherry alsodeveloped a workshop at a biological field station in the rainforest of Costa Rica, designed to draw dancers and movement artists out of their more controlled studio environments, challenge their notions of dance, and encourage personal and artistic discovery while navigating an unfamiliar terrain. For over thirty years Sherry has concentrated her physical inquiry in the area of body-mind studies as they relate to dance/movement, creative practice, and the process of learning. She is a committed improvisational dancer, a certified Body-Mind Centering practitioner, and is continually intrigued with the possibilities of her yoga practice.
