Volunteer Agreement
The Alabama Interfaith Refugee Partnership (ALIRP) sincerely appreciates the support provided by volunteers to assist with the Birmingham Migrant Transit Project.  The purpose of this project is to:
  • Facilitate released migrants in contacting their sponsors and/or families in the U.S.
  • Assist in arranging travel to sponsors and/or families
  • Provide a meal to migrants in this time of transit, and
  • Provide a coat and/or suitable supplemental clothing to each migrant relative to the weather conditions they are/will be facing

The goal is to help migrants travel to their sponsors on the day that they arrive in Birmingham, although it may be necessary for some migrants to stay overnight in Birmingham and travel the following day.  Volunteers agree not to share any information about migrants who are served by this project.

Each Volunteer understands and agrees that he/she is providing services on a voluntary basis, and that the ALIRP is not responsible for any costs incurred by the volunteer or any problems resulting from actions of the migrants served.  The ALIRP makes no representations or warranties with respect to the Program Participant’s criminal background and each Volunteer understands and agrees to accept any potential risk involved with housing or transporting the Program Participant. The Organization does not insure personal or real property belonging to the Volunteer(s).

I. Waiver of Liability and Release of Claims for Volunteers Who Host Migrants in their Homes

Each Volunteer understands and agrees that the ALIRP ™ BMTP (hereinafter referred to as the “Organization”) is not responsible for the actions of the Project Participant during his/her stay in their home, including without limitation damage to their home or property and costs or any expenses incurred by the Project Participant. The Organization makes no representations or warranties with respect to the Project Participant’s criminal background and each Volunteer understands and agrees to accept any potential risk involved with housing the Project Participant. The Organization does not insure personal or real property belonging to the Volunteer Host(s).

I hereby release and forever discharge ALIRP ™ and the BMTP from any claim whatsoever which arises or may hereafter arise on account of any first-aid treatment, medical, or other services rendered in connection with an emergency during my time as a Volunteer Host with the Birmingham Migrant Transit Project.

II. Assumption of the Risk

I understand that participation in the Birmingham Migrant Transit Project involves certain risks. I am voluntarily participating in Birmingham Migrant Transit Project with knowledge of the danger involved and I agree to accept all risks of participation. I release and forever discharge and hold harmless the Alabama Interfaith Refugee Partnership and its successors and assigns from any and all liability, claims, and demands of whatever kind or nature, either in law or in equity, which may hereafter arise from my participation and its events.

III. Provisions & Specific Agreements

The Volunteer Host agrees not to ask the Project Participant to perform any services or work of any kind for the Volunteer or any person or entity affiliated with the Volunteer Host, nor may the Volunteer Host accept any services or work from the Project Participant, even if such services are freely performed. I understand that I am mandated to report any suspicion of child/elder abuse or neglect. I understand that I am required to report any concerns that the guest may express about harming him/herself or another person.

IV. Assignment

This agreement may not be transferred or assigned by the Volunteer Host(s). Thank you for being part of Birmingham Migrant Transit Project. If you have further questions, please contact the Director of the ALIRP at Director@alirp.org.
