MINDFUL PARENTS & EDUCATORS (MP&E) is a comprehensive and rigorous system of attentional training. It can help you develop mindful awareness skills by working smarter, not harder. The goal of this program is to help grown-ups become more mindfully aware especially when in the presence of children (who learn a lot from the subtleties about us). There are two bottom lines: 1: A solid mindfulness practice makes us happier. 2: When we are happier, our children tend to be happier and healthier too.
WHY DOES THE U SCHOOL PRACTICE MINDFULNESS?
The core of the U School’s Ubuntu PEACE Plan is the middle letter “A”, which stands for “Awareness.” We believe heightened awareness is key to happy, healthy, and inspired living. Every part of the Ubuntu PEACE Plan begins with our awareness. Understanding whether our play is safe, whether respect is being given and felt, whether communication is needed, and whether we are experiencing the fun begins with our awareness of the moment. Mindfulness helps us by directly offering a system of attentional training for deepening our awareness.
COURSE INSTRUCTOR: Charlie Sutherland, U School Teacher.
Charlie’s mindfulness coaching, using the Unified Mindfulness* system, has been ongoing since 2013 after taking teaching courses from Shinzen Young. He has helped people apply mindfulness to work- or family-related stress, to process chronic pain, to interact with more compassion, to break down mental habits or “tape loops,” and the list goes on. His current focus is developing mindfulness trainings for parents, educators, and preschoolers.
