Sign up here to participate in the upcoming teaching talk: March 4th at 2 pm ET. If you're interested in the topic, but can't make it--also let us know so we can 1) be sure to send you notes from the talk and 2) so that we can plan another one that you can attend.
What are teaching talks? Teaching talks are online, informal discussions that offer opportunities to learn about particular topics and teaching strategies. Each Teaching Talk has a facilitator, but all attendees are invited to offer ideas, discussion problems and concerns, and to help develop materials that other Women in Tech Comm can use.
What will this teaching talk cover? In this teaching talk, Michele Simmons and Natasha Jones will facilitate a discussion of the relationship between community engagement and social justice in the technical communication classroom. The discussion will emerge from participant questions, but Michele and Natasha will facilitate some definitional work and help differentiate among overlapping approaches [service learning vs. community-based projects]. Participants and facilitators will share strategies for ethically and effectively implementing projects in the community [with an eye towards social justice].
