Saving Places: LA Women's Landmarks, 2026 Curriculum Writing Cohort Application

Saving Places: LA Women's LandmarksA Curriculum Writing & Leadership Cohort

Saving Places: LA Women's Landmarks is a collaboration between the UCLA History–Geography Project, the Los Angeles Conservancy, and the National Trust for Historic Preservation that explores and elevates the stories of the women who shaped Los Angeles. From August 2026 to May 2027, participants will engage with scholars, archivists, and other educators as they do a deep dive into local women's history. The objective of this collaboration is to translate the archives into classroom-ready lesson plans for K-12 History and Ethnic Studies teachers. However, this cohort isn't just about writing lessons; it’s about redefining how we teach local history. We will use LA’s physical landmarks, from the Crenshaw Women’s Center to the Chicana Service Action Center, as portals to explore intersectional narratives of labor, suffrage, and social justice.

Why Join This Cohort?

  • Access Exclusive Archives: Work with "place-based" primary sources, including oral histories, architectural reports, and maps not yet available to the public.

  • Publish Your Work: Your completed curriculum will be published for a statewide network of 11,000+ educators and featured at a public community launch event.
  • Earn a Stipend: Teacher Leaders receive a $1,000 stipend upon completion of all program requirements.
