2023 Upper Oconee Science and Policy Summit - Call for Abstracts and Registration
Exploring the Intersection of Science and Policy in the Upper Oconee Watershed

Sponsored by: Upper Oconee Watershed Network - UGA River Basin Center - UGA Office of Sustainability - Athens-Clarke County Stormwater Management Program - Athens-Clarke County Water Conservation Office

Wednesday, February 15, 2023

The Upper Oconee Watershed Network (UOWN) and its partners are now accepting abstract submissions for the third biennial Upper Oconee Science and Policy Summit.

Our summit brings together scientists, policymakers, activists, students, managers, and community members from across the region to explore the intersection between water resource science, management, and policy in the Upper Oconee Watershed. Oral presentations are invited to:

Share information about water resource activities occurring in our watershed
Highlight the integral connections between science, management, and policy
Identify opportunities and needs for collaboration and action in our watershed
Introduce our brightest UGA student researchers to the local community

Aquatic research programs provide valuable information and knowledge that better inform policies and management decisions. Unfortunately, much of what we learn from scientific studies never gets passed on to water-resource managers and policy makers. Our summit seeks to address this challenge by:

Highlighting effective ways for informing management and policy based on scientific information
Fostering a collaborative, sharing environment for scientists, professionals, and the community
Identifying research gaps needed to support effective watershed management

Oral presentations are limited to 10 minutes (depending on the number of presenters) and 5 minutes for questions to encourage more time for interactions.
