What type of algae did you observe? *

Algae Bloom: This type has a "pea soup" or paint-like appearance in the water. It can be green or bluish-green. Bloom means any sudden increase in the concentration of algae cells in a certain area of water. In Wisconsin, blooms typically occur during the warm-weather months between mid-June and mid-September.

Algae Scum: This type is named for its scum-like appearance on the water. It may be green, brown, or even red.

Filamentous Algae: This type may look like hair or stringy cotton candy strands attached to rocks, dock legs, or weeds.This type is usually green but can become yellow to brownish.

Algal Mat: This is an accumulation of filamentous algae, either freely floating or rolling along the shoreline.
