The Optimist International Junior Golf Championship is one of the largest and best-known junior golf tournaments in the world. Each year, more than 600 golfers participate in THE OPTIMIST. Optimists have been involved in the sport of junior golf for more than 30 years by holding local, regional and international tournaments. More than 5,000 golfers compete in official Optimist District qualifying tournaments. The best of these golfers, along with international golfers from around the globe, advance to the annual Optimist International Junior Golf Championships.
General Information
Appropriate Covid-19 precautions will be followed; details will be provided before the event.

The top two players scoring the qualifying score for each age group will qualify for the Optimist International Junior Golf Championships at Doral Resort and Spa in Miami, FL.

The Optimist CAPVA District includes DC and a majority of Virginia.
Maryland and other state residents are invited to play as "out of district" participants; the following applies.
If golfers from other Districts (i.e. MD) participate in a qualifying tournament, their participation will not eliminate any District (DC & VA) residents from qualifying. If an out-of-District (i.e. MD) golfer qualifies for one of the designated spots, he/she is eligible to attend the international championships in addition to the next-highest golfer who lives within the District boundaries.

Golfers who qualify will be required to submit a copy of their birth certificate, drivers license, baptismal record or passport.

Distance-measuring devices may be used to obtain distance information only, nothing else. Cell phones may be used to measure distance only.

Age divisions for the 2021 Optimist International Junior Golf Championships are listed below. They are the same for all official Optimist District qualifying tournaments. *
Golfers must currently be enrolled in school or be a 2021 high school graduate.****Please Note: a golfer who is still 18 years old on July 28 and who graduated high school in 2021 or earlier, is also eligible provided he/she has not yet attended college.

How did you find out about this tournament?
A free 9-hole tournament will start when the last group in the 18-hole event tees off. This is intended for golfers that may not be ready for a highly competitive tournament atmosphere. It is NOT a qualifier for the Optimist International Junior Golf Championships. The same age groups apply.

The 9-hole tournament is free, no payment needed. The 18-Hole qualifier tournament entry fee is $35.00 Both events include green fee, driving range, gift bag, and a meal. If the entry fee creates an issue, scholarships are available. *
