We are always looking for individuals that want to contribute their time and integrity through the service of volunteering. We are an inclusive space, open to all people from different walks of life that appreciate what Albuquerque has to offer in food, music, art and fun. There are multiple avenues and opportunities to get involved: from parking to compost, lifting to listening, we can always use your help in the day of operations.
We appreciate the time you have to share with the RYM and enhance our community, so here is what we have to offer you:
In exchange for helping us for 2-4 hours each Sunday, you receive monetary compensation in the form of a Token: a type of money system used here at the rail yards. The token can be used for all fresh produce, delectable food, and exciting art you see at the market every Sunday. There are inclusive volunteer and vendor potluck events that you can join in on, and put your tokens towards, outside of the busy day of the market.
The Rail Yards Market takes place from 10am-2pm on Sundays May-October, with an end of the season Holiday Market in December. Volunteering Opportunities are available from 8am-3pm on Sundays within the season that we are operating.
Areas where we need volunteer support include:
Morning Set-up: The morning "Dawn Patrol" is an important place for volunteers, who get to see the quiet magic of the historic site buzz and grow into excitement in early hours. We put up signs to get the word out and keep everyone organized, and also have the opportunity to prep the historic site before vendors and attendees arrive!
Green Team: The market has a commitment to sustainability and preserving the cherished Blacksmith shop. The Green Team beautifies the space and educates visitors on the importance of recycling, composting and more!
Vendor Loading & Assistance: Its a busy time in the morning and afternoon, and we can use all the extra hands possible to keep things safe and efficient.
Greeters & Safety Ambassadors: Sometimes lifting and running about isn't for everyone. The market can always use friendly faces at our main entrance greeting patrons as they arrive, and keeping count of in's and out's (for Fire Code compliance).
Children's Zone: The interactive activities in our fun kids area and other educational zones often require some friendly volunteers to monitor attendees and assist educators.
Information Booth: Educate the public about the market's mission, and assist with merchandise and other information.
Invite or refer a friend to come with you, its always best when you have a ride along! Thank you for your interest and support of this community project!
