2024 Role Models Foundation Bill Maxwell Scholarship for Santa Fe College students
Bill Maxwell is a Florida native.  The member of a migrant farm working family, he went to live with his grandparents in Crescent City, Florida, when he was sixteen.  He attended Wiley College in Marshall, Texas, and went to Vietnam as a U.S. Marine.  He attended Bethune-Cookman University and earned a full fellowship to the University of Chicago for his masters.  Over the next 40 years, he taught English, writing and journalism at 15 different college institutions, including Santa Fe College.  While at Santa Fe College, Maxwell was awarded the Alan J. Robertson Medallion among his peers.  In the mid 1980s, Maxwell began writing for the Gainesville Sun.  In 1994, he joined the St. Petersburg Times as an editorial writer and opinion columnist.  In 1995, Maxwell founded Role Models Foundation, Inc. as a non-profit dedicated to serving youth by developing journalists, productive citizens, and future generations of leaders. Currently, he is a correspondent for the Tampa Bay Times.

Application Postmark Deadline: June 15, 2024
This is a one-time $1,000 Scholarship awarded to a student currently enrolled in an A.A., A.A.S., A.S., or bachelors degree program at Santa Fe College and continuing their studies in Fall 2024 and Spring 2025. Student must be a resident of Alachua, Bradford, or Putnam County and a U.S. citizen or permanent resident. Award selection will be announced in August 2024.  A minimum cumulative 3.0 GPA is required to apply. Please note that if selected, recipients will need to provide proof of enrollment for the Fall 2024 semester after drop/add date has passed before funds will be distributed.
