Elective Choices
Grade 7 students have a choice between taking Fine Arts or Band as an elective. Please see course descriptions below.
Course Descriptions - Fine Arts (Art & Drama)
Art 7 will offer students valuable experiences with clay, paint, drawing, design and more. Students will be encouraged to explore their artistic inclinations, problem solve, use creative and critical thinking skills, and most importantly take risks! They will be exposed to various styles and genres of art and will build a portfolio of their creations. This will be a place to display not only their finished products but also their process and ideas. Many different creative strategies and mindfulness techniques will be encouraged, all of which contribute to the development of a creative well-rounded person. Art will be occasionally be displayed throughout the school and potentially the community.

Drama 7 will offer students valuable life skills including public speaking, communication, body language, concentration and more. Students will be encouraged to explore their artistic inclinations, problem solve, use creative and critical thinking skills, develop their personal and social-emotional skills, and most importantly take risks! They will be exposed to various styles and genres of drama and will record their thoughts in a process journal. The Drama classroom is not focused on the polished product but rather the journey it takes to get there. Many different creative strategies and mindfulness techniques will be encouraged, all of which contribute to the development of a creative well-rounded person. Students will have the opportunity to perform for each other and potentially even guests.

Course Description - Band
Emphasis will be placed on developing playing techniques, articulation, dynamics and ensemble playing. Emphasis will also be placed on theoretical and historical aspects as they occur within the ensemble music as it is being rehearsed. This is a performing arts course which requires at home practice on your instrument and active participation in the classroom. Attendance at concerts, assemblies and festivals will be an integral and required part of the curriculum.
