WITS 2021 Call for Speaking Proposals
Thank you for your interest in presenting at the Women in Tech Summits (WITS) or WITS Connect events in 2021.
We have provided important information about WITS and our selection process below. Please read all of this information prior to submitting your speaking proposal. Please note that the 2021 summits and Connect events will be virtual. Please only submit a speaking proposal if you are comfortable presenting in a virtual format.

WITS 2021 SCHEDULE -

WITS Spring 2021 Virtual Summit (March 2021)
WITS Fall 2021 Virtual Summit (October 2021)
WITS Connect - monthly beginning November 2020

If your submission is selected for one of the virtual summits or one of the virtual Connect events, we will contact you to confirm your virtual availability for the specific dates.


We are looking for volunteers to deliver a solo talk, participate on a panel or lead a workshop that falls into one of the following agenda tracks: (1) Innovate Yourself, (2) Trends in Technology, and (3) Hands-on Workshops. Descriptions of the tracks are below. You will need to select the type of session you plan to lead when you submit your application. Speakers/Panels should be prepared to lead a 45 minute session (including Q&A). Hands-on workshop leaders should be prepared to lead a 2-hour project based workshop that includes hands-on activities. We encourage speakers to develop sessions that include interaction with the audience via Q&A or chat in the virtual session.

While every submission will be evaluated on its own merits, preference will be given to women currently or formerly working in technology. Preference will also be given to speakers who have active work experience in their particular topic. Prior to submitting a proposal for the Women in Tech Summit, we recommend reviewing sessions/topics from prior summits. The Audience -
Our attendees are women working on both the technical and business sides of technology. They range from students to CEOs with the majority of attendees being mid-career. They are interested in hearing from other women in the industry on topics that will help them grow their skills, expand their knowledge, and advance their careers.

Submission deadlines - We recommend submitting your proposals as soon as possible. The deadline for submissions for the 2021 summits is October 15, 2020. Please note that depending on the number of proposals received, submissions may be closed prior to these dates.

Notifications -
Submissions will be accepted and reviewed on a rotating basis. Speakers will be notified about their status on a rotating basis between the close of submissions and the end of November. We anticipate making final determinations regarding speakers no later than December 31, 2020. Speakers will have 10 days to respond to notices of acceptance. Failure to respond within 10 days will result in a revocation of the invitation to speak.

Approved speakers are eligible for a complimentary registrations to both 2021 virtual summits. All proceeds from the Women in Tech Summit go to support Techgirlz.org. Techgirlz is a non-profit that inspires girls to explore the possibilities of technology. For this reason, we are unable to provide speakers with a stipend.

Speakers, as well as all attendees and sponsors, will be expected to adhere to the Code of Conduct for the Women in Tech Summit. The code can be viewed here - http://womenintechsummit.com/about/

Track and Session info -

Sessions in all tracks at the Women in Tech Summit should be grounded in three basic concepts
- Positive, forward-looking viewpoints
- Actionable messages that help attendees grow skills, networks, and careers
- Demonstrating that working in tech is writing code and much more


Trends in Technology Track -

The Trends in Technology track provides audience members an opportunity to learn more about a specific technology topic. These sessions should focus on some of the new things happening in and with technology. Attendees should come away from these sessions with an understanding of these trends and their applicability. These sessions will be 45 minutes long including Q&A.

Hands-on Workshops -

The hands-on workshops provide audience members with practical experience in a given topic. Workshops should be exercise and/or project based and should provide either an elementary overview or a deep-dive into a particular technology topic. Speakers are encouraged to submit either programming workshop topics or workshops that demonstrate that working in tech is programming and more. Please note that the 2021 hands-on workshop sessions will be 2 hours.

Innovate Yourself Track -

The Innovate Yourself track at the Women in Tech Summit provides audience members an opportunity to develop skills and learn from the experience and expertise of other women working in tech. Innovate Yourself sessions focus on topics useful for career growth on both the technical and business sides of technology. These sessions will be 45 minutes long including Q&A.
