Dear Taekwondo family!

We send our sincere consolation and encouragement to the Taekwondo families and its members who are struggling from COVID-19 pandemic.

Kukkiwon celebrates its 48th anniversary this year. We are at a critical point to prepare for the new 50 years. When Kukkiwon was constructed in 1972, it served as a landmark in Gangnam area. But now, it is too old and outdated to maintain the status of the World Taekwondo Headquarters.

On July 23, 2010, In-chon Yoo, Minister of Culture and Sports, visited Kukkiwon to tour various facilities and propose renovations. Everytime the president appointed, we have considered a reconstruction, but without any results, it came to this point.

The situation is completely different now. The number of Taekwondo trainees is rapidly increasing and the role of Kukkiwon is greater than ever, since Taekwondo is adopted as a key event in the Olympics. The current Kukkiwon building cannot faithfully perform the various functions expected from Kukkiwon. The Kukkiwon Building is not only oppressed by a larger buildings in the Gangnam area and also inferior to national prestige, which ranks the top 10 economies in the world.
   
We would like to upgrade the status of Taekwondo founding nation by reconstruct the Kukkiwon, landmark of both Taekwondo and Gangnam. As its first project, we wish to create a 'Taekwondo Theme Park' to give residents of Gangnam-gu a sense of pride in having a sacred place for Taekwondo, and Kukkiwon will use
it as an opportunity to open a new era of hope and prosperity.

First of all, we would like to designate ‘Gangnam
Station’ as a ‘Kukkiwon Station’. which will not change
it’s original name but the official name of the station
will be stated in both ways. Also, set a Taekwondo sculpture 500m away from the intersection of ‘Gangnam Station’, and also a large arch looking gate at the entrance of Kukkiwon to confirm the "Taekwondo Theme Park" project is to revitalize ‘Gangnam Station’ area.

Next, as a full project, we wish to reconstruct Kukkiwon to be recognized as the capital of the World Taekwondo Headquarter. By joining the World Taekwondo, we will make the Kukkiwon as the World Taekwondo Headquarters not only names but also in function. Graduate School of Taekwondo will be established which will function critically in Taekwondo education, which will be joined by Taekwondo Central School, Taekwondo Concert Hall, Convention Center, and Taekwondo TV station.

In order for this project to be realized, active interest and support from Taekwondo people around the world is essential. With the will of Taekwondo people and their families, we should gather our strength and wisdom to succeed in the project to create a "Taekwondo Theme Park".

We wish all of Taekwondo families around globe to participate in a long-cherished project of Kukkiwon to be realized in a near future.
