Elite Dance Academy Solo/Duo/Trio Request Form 2025/26
Welcome to the 2025/26 solo/duo/trio season.

Our faculty are so excited to begin creating custom pieces of art specifically designed for your dancer. Each of the choreographers have experience in the competitive dance industry and are able to provide knowledgable feedback, tailored choreography and a mature approach to coaching in all situations. It is our aim to provide dancers with an enjoyable experience during all stages of the process, from creation to the stage and everything between.

If your request is accepted your dancer will experience:
  • Learning the choreography
  • Altering and cleaning the choreography
  • Performing on stage
  • Celebrating goals and successes

REQUESTS
EDA accepts requests for solos/duos/trios from dancers training in the competitive program that are 8yrs+ or by faculty choice.

Within the Request Form dancers may check off a specific genre of solo/duo/trio and a choreographer they wish to do/work with. We will consider the request however, if the faculty feels that dancer/s would better excel in a different style or work better with another choreographer they will place the dancer accordingly. Every dancer is unique, so it is imperative that they are matched with the styles/choreographers that best suit their strengths and abilities. We realize that some dancers have bonds with certain teachers and friends(duos/trios) and will do our best to continue to foster those bonds through choreography requests, however, we can not guarantee a dancer will be matched with the choreographer they requested. We will consider a choreographer that is not on the list, however the faculty will make the final decision in those rare circumstances. EDA reserves the right to limit how many solos/duos/trios a dancer performs in a particular season. We believe in quality over quantity and want to be sure the dancer can fully commit and handle the amount of work taken on until it’s time to perform at competition.

Please read through the following information carefully. By sending in your request for a solo/duo/trio you and your dancer are agreeing to abide by the terms of this document.

THE SCHEDULE
Choreography must be completed in the summer months. The choreographer will contact you to create a schedule. Once completed the dancer agrees to practice the solo at home and attend all scheduled practices with their choreographer or assistant cleaner. Cleaning usually takes place on the weekends during September-March either weekly or bi- weekly.

Absences/changes to solo schedules must be sent in writing 24hrs prior to the scheduled time. If you have an unexcused missed solo lesson, no- show, or last minute cancellation your choreographer will charge you for that lesson. Soloists are responsible for filling slots if they need to miss or change - this means contacting other soloists to fill your slot.

The choreographer is not obligated to give equal time to all soloists beyond the initial 4hrs. Time is based on individual need as determined by the choreographer. Please note that it is up to the choreographer to determine whether a piece is ready for the stage(the parent and dancer do not decide this). If it is determined that one soloist’s piece requires more work than another soloist’s piece, the choreographer/cleaner reserves the right to schedule accordingly.

Students must come to their scheduled practice knowing the choreography in its entirety. Parents are encouraged to come in and film for the last 5-10mins of the lesson. If a student forgets the choreography more than twice, the choreographer reserves the right to deny further progress on the solo without refund. All solo/duo/trio participants that do not attend their evening classes consistently(have many absences, excessive tardiness) may have their pieces pulled from all competitions and could possibly be removed from their groups as well. Faculty will also not consider dancers that consistently late/absent for solos/duos/trios the following season.

Some of our choreographers may choose to have assistant cleaners work with their solos/duos/trios for cleaning after the choreography is completed. In this case an assistant cleaner will be assigned to the dancer and a cleaning schedule worked out in advance. It is recommended that dancers clean their solos regularly up until their first competition. If the faculty feel a solo/ duo/trio is not stage ready they reserve the right to pull the solo from competition.

COMPETITION REGISTRATION

All pieces of choreography will be entered under Elite Dance Academy regardless of who choreographed them.

Solos/duos/trios must register for a minimum of 2 competitions within the dance year. Dancers can not register for competitions or conventions that EDA is not attending as a team.

The competitions EDA will be participating in this season are :

Summit Dance Competition - Nanaimo March 5-8th 2026

Versastyle - Sidney March 9-12th or April 7-10th(they do not have confirmed dates) 2026

Phoenix Dance Competition - Nanaimo April 16-19th 2026

NIFPA - is for soloists looking to participate in Provincials and is by faculty approval only. Dancers must have two solos in the same genre in order to compete. Example : Two ballet solos, or two stage solos(Jazz & Tap).

There are competition entry fees for each competition, these fees are NOT included in your choreography rate. Some dancers maybe asked to attend a Finals Competition, the cost to attend these special competitions will be the dancer's responsibility. Dancers will be unable to attend any finals that conflict with what is listed on the EDA calendar.

THE MUSIC

Ideas are always welcome, but most commonly music is chosen by the choreographer. It is important that the choreographer connects to the song so they can create effectively. Music is sent via email in MP3 format for the dancers use for practice at home and with assistant cleaners.

THE COSTUME

Ideas are always welcome, however, the vision is very personal, therefore the choreographer will choose the costume they feel best suits the piece and the dancer. They may choose for you to use a private seamstress, purchase second-hand, or order from a costume book. Costumes should always look professional ie. well fitted, appropriate for age.

SOCIAL MEDIA & DISCLAIMERS

Please note that the choreographer owns all the rights to the choreography. It can not be sold or redistributed unless they have given permission to do so. The choreography may not be entered under any other studio other than Elite Dance Academy and can not be entered at any competition or convention without the permission of the studio owner.

It is kindly asked that you not share videos of the choreography while it is still in its rehearsal stage(within the first 4hrs) on Facebook/Instagram or any other social media outlet. Please be sure to always tag/credit your choreographer and EDA when posting on social media. It’s always rewarding to see our dancers shining and we want to be part of that experience with you, even on social media.

CHOREOGRAPHY RATES FOR 2025/26

The rates below are for our 2025/26 EDA Faculty. The rates include choreography for 2hrs and then 4 half-hour cleaning sessions(may differ per choreographer). After that time all cleaning sessions will fall under your choreographers/assistant cleaners hourly rate(rates will differ) plus $15/hr rental fee. Most cleaning sessions are half-hour time slots. You will need to contact edastudiobookings@gmail.com to book studio time. All dancers/choreographers will need to sign a rental waiver before using EDA studios.

Choreography fees/choreo. admin fees are due upon the first lesson to the choreographer by either cash or e-transfer. The choreographer can deny further work on the solo if payment has not been received. All cleaning fees including the rental fee should be paid to your choreographer/assistant cleaner upon each lesson. Some teachers may require travel compensation; in this case the total will be divided among all the dancers working with that choreographer(if applicable).
