The AI_r sensor from the South African Consortium of Air Quality Monitoring (SACAQM; https://www.sacaqm.org), based at Wits, measures:
PM1.0
PM2.5
PM4.0
PM10.0
VOCs
NOx
CO₂
Temperature
Humidity
We offer the use of the AI_r sensor free of charge to public, NGO and private organisations who would like to monitor air quality in their neighborhood. The data will be made publicly available via an online dashboard. The device will need to be returned to Wits when the study is completed, which will conclude in two years.
Participants are expected to:
Collect the device from Wits.
Install the device outdoors on a windowsill, positioned away from direct sunlight and sheltered from rain.
Set up and provide Wi-Fi connectivity (data usage is approximately 100 MB per month).
Ensure the device remains powered and continuously connected.
