Windrush Day small grant application form 2019
Hackney Council has been awarded a grant from the government’s Windrush Day grant scheme to help educate, commemorate and celebrate the outstanding contribution of the Windrush Generation and their descendants.
Hackney’s Windrush Day grant is led by the Council’s Communications, Culture and Engagement Team and the local Windrush Day steering group members. The Windrush Day programme in Hackney is a series of activities which culminate into a celebration on National Windrush Day, 22 June 2019 that will take place at Stoke Newington Town Hall.

The objectives of the microgrants scheme in Hackney are to:

Celebrate - To celebrate the positive contributions that the Windrush generation and their descendants have made to the borough.

Commemorate - To develop better understanding across communities of local Windrush contributions.

Educate - To take Windrush generation history and culture to a wider and inter-generational audience.

The microgrant offers a total of £4,000 and encourages local, non-profit organisations and community groups to apply for up to £400 towards their activities to celebrate National Windrush Day.

Activities can take place before, during and after National Windrush Day (22 June) and should provide an element of show and tell for the Stoke Newington Town Hall celebrations. Examples of microgrant activities may be performances, events, conversations, workshops, talks, exhibitions, and other activities.

Some of the themes (though not exclusively) that the Windrush Day steering group have discussed are: food, arts & culture, sports & cricket, style & hair, economic well-being, entrepreneurship & finance, housing, work & employment, civil rights & civic engagement.
