ORCAPA Board Member Application
Oregon Connections Academy Parents Association (ORCAPA) is a small group of parents who have, over the past ten years, kept an eye on legislation that had/has potential to affect Oregon Connections Academy (ORCA). We help mobilize parents to build relationships with legislators to let them know that online public school students are, indeed, real human beings who choose online schooling for a myriad of reasons. That contact and personalization has proved invaluable when the Legislature has considered bills that could have a detrimental impact on access to quality online programs in general, and ORCA in particular.

If you are an individual who is passionate about public education and dreams of a future where every student has an individualized learning plan - a K-12 education that allows them to progress at their own pace, not the pace of the majority, we would like to invite you to join our team. As a society, we have accepted status quo for far too long. Technology has revolutionized every other aspect of our lives, but young people are trapped in a model of public education that is much the same as it was 100 years ago.

In practical terms, we meet (virtually, of course) about once a month for an hour or so. During the legislative sessions, we may meet more often, depending on the need. We support parents new to online schooling, train them to express their unique stories to their legislators, provide key parent-perspective testimony in public hearings, support our teachers at events like Capitol Day and Spring Fling, and generally do whatever we can to make sure ORCA stays available to any Oregon student who desires to attend.

If you think you might like to join us, please complete the following survey and we will be in touch.
