Horizons at DCD Summer Volunteer Application

SUMMARY
Horizons is offering mature high school and college students an opportunity to provide an important community service and learn the basics of working with children in a fun setting. Volunteers will assist Lead Teachers and Teaching Assistants with children and will participate in Horizons daily activities. A typical day may include academics, computers, arts and music, swimming, breakfast/lunch, and sports. At the end of their time with Horizons, volunteers will be asked to provide a written summary including a brief personal reflection regarding their community service experience at Horizons. If you are accepted to volunteer at Horizons, a parental permission form will be required. This form will be sent to you once you are accepted.

JOB DESCRIPTION
The 2019 summer program runs from June 27th - August 7th, Monday - Friday from 8:00 AM - 3:30 PM. Volunteers must commit to the entirety of either Session 1, from June 27th - July 19th, or Session 2, from July 22nd - August 7th (or both), as well as a regular schedule and daily assignments.

Volunteer assignments will include: assisting with classroom activities, providing tutoring during academic lessons, attending field trips with the class, attending breakfast, lunch, and swim with the class, and assisting in the planning and implementation of "Fun Fridays."

Please give careful thought to your availability during this time. Volunteering for Horizons is a serious commitment that should be met with a sense of professionalism and dedication.

ELIGIBILITY
- Horizons volunteers must have at least completed the 8th grade.
- All volunteers are required to sign the Code of Conduct

- Volunteers must be able to commit to volunteer for either Session 1 or Session 2 (or both), be available to attend the
mandatory training on May 11th and 12th, and commit to volunteering for our pre-program testing day (Saturday, June
1st).
- Strong applicants demonstrate a commitment to community service and volunteerism.
