Artists, historians, & makers in all arts disciplines are invited to propose projects to curate the Smallest Museum in St Paul in monthly exhibits throughout 2019. Artist-curators will be selected by a panel of local arts and community leaders. The review panel will assign the exhibition month based on artist’s stated availability.
If Selected, WORKHORSE COFFEE BAR will provide: * $250 Stipend to each artist or exhibit team * PR and Marketing of monthly exhibits, social media, and artist reception.* SMSP has a resident photographer, who documents and shares all visual collateral with the artist from a Google Drive for their own archives, work samples, etc. SMSP retains all rights to use these images for promotion or revenue and offers photos for the artist's use, promotion, and portfolio.
Proposal Review: A 5-member board, chosen from the local arts organizations and community members, will review all submissions. 2 seats are community liaison positions, and 3 are from local arts organizations. Last year representatives from the following orgs served as our panel; Forecast Public Art , Creative Enterprise Zone, The Textile Center, Hampden Co-op.
PROPOSAL CRITERIA1. LOCAL What is your connection to LOCAL? Neighborhoods include: St Anthony Park, Hamline Midway, and Prospect Park, and Como. How are you relating to the people, industries, or history of this geographic area in St Paul?
2. ENGAGE THE AUDIENCE Exhibits should engage the street or commuter audience through a call to action, an exchange, or an interaction of some kind. This could include audiences leaving their mark or imprint upon the exhibit, contributing to exhibit content, and/ or engaging online via social media.
3. NOT TOO FUSSY A. Exhibits are displayed in a street-scape gallery, where there may be an increased liability to damage or theft. Please do not use prized possessions if you cannot bear to have something happen to them. The suggestion is to keep materials to a maximum cost of $50.
