šŸĀ Ā What does the Planet Bee’s Environmental STEM Education Program offer? All curriculum isĀ aligned with Next Generation Science Standards and Common Core State Standards
  • Digital Curriculum (Asynchronous)
  • Community Science Projects Digital Toolkits (Mostly asynchronous, with some synchronous components if desired)
  • Live STEM Lessons (Synchronous)
šŸĀ  Digital Curriculum (Asynchronous): Adaptable for all grade bands.
  • Topics: Introduction to Bees, Honey Bees, and Native Bees
  • Provided at no cost to schools and nonprofits
  • Includes: scripted lesson plans for teachers, videos, worksheets, games, community science projects, hands-on stewardship activities
šŸĀ Ā Community Science Projects Digital Toolkits:Ā Aligned with CCSS & NGSS for grades 3-5, adaptable for other levels.

  • BEEyond HarvestED:Ā A 5-unit curriculum on soil health, decomposition, composting, invertebrates, native bees, pollination, plant life cycles, and sustainable food production.
  • Community (Citizen) Science and Native Bee House Project:Ā In spring, students install native bee houses, study bee behavior, and conduct NGSS-aligned experiments on bee ecology.

šŸĀ  Live STEM Lessons (Synchronous)Ā Aligned with CCSS & NGSS for grades K-5, adaptable for other levels. LessonsĀ are taught by a state-certified Planet Bee educator. Lessons are typically 60 minutes but can be 45 with advance notice.Ā Please note: A fee may apply, but we offer a generous sliding scale. Sign up for a lesson and we will reach out to you in 7 days if there is a fee.

Lesson Descriptions:
  • BEE-ometryĀ -This STEM lesson uses math and engineering concepts to show why bees are nature's greatest mathematicians. We cover honey bee biology, hive roles, pollination, native bees, their nesting preferences, and the importance of all bees
  • Do the Waggle! -Get ready to move like honey bees in this STEM lesson! Explore how communication drives collaboration in the hive. Students will learn the basics of the waggle dance and understand how bees communicate from the individual to the group level.
  • Adapt-BEE-lity - This STEM lesson explores native bees and their adaptations to changing habitats, with a focus on climate change. Students will learn how climate change, human development, and pesticides affect bee survival and discover positive actions to support and protect native bee populations.
  • BEE An Engineer! -Ā Ā This STEM lesson examines how bees use their environment to build their homes. Students will analyze bee construction and adaptations. We’ll also take virtual field trips to see how other animals design their homes, highlighting their reliance on their surroundings and resources.
  • BEE a Scientist! - Students will observe insects, record their findings, describe what they see, and compare data. Observations are crucial in science as they spark questions and guide experiments. This lesson not only offers actionable steps for protecting bees but also introduces community science, empowering students to contribute to environmental conservation.
