The Human Rights Café is a student-led initiative originated in the italian city of Padova, through the work of the youth organization SET Padova. This project has now been awarded funding from the Arqus Alliance to host three transnational events on the quality of democracy in Italy, Spain and Portugal. The café in Granada, which follows the café at the Università degli Studi di Padova (Italy) and precedes a final café at Universidade do Minho (Portugal) is set to allow participants to engage in a critical and comparative conversation about the way these democracies evolved after their 20th century dictatorships and following their membership in the European Union.

Who can participate?

Any student at the University of Granada who's eager to learn and take an active role in the debate.

When and where?

Friday 1st of December 2023, 4pm, at the Law Library of the University of Granada (-1 floor).

Which topics are going to be discussed?

1. Rights of women and the LGBTQ+ community.

2. Spain, Italy and Portugal in the European Union.

3. Regional identities.

4. Democratic and colonial memory.

Disclaimer: everyone will have the opportunity to discuss and hear about all the topics, although we will ask you to give us your preferences in order to prepare the first part of the event (which will consist on small groups discussions).
