Graduate Professional Development Sessions - Fall 2025
This series of virtual webinars and in-person workshops is designed for CSU Graduate Students and Postdoctoral Fellows. Sessions this semester focus on topics identified as priorities through graduate student feedback: physical and mental wellbeing and the science of learning.  We’ve designed these sessions to be interactive and engaging, offering practical insights from experts.

A description of each session is included below.

Registration is required three days before in-person "Lunch and Learns" and 24-hours in advance of virtual webinars.

The Wellbeing Advantage: Tools for a Successful Grad Journey
Guest Speakers: Vivian Apt-Ephraimson (Health Network) and Taylor Sidore and Georgia Garrett (Rec Center)

Graduate school is demanding—taking care of your mental and physical health is key to staying balanced and on-track. In this interactive session, experts from the Health Network and Campus Recreation will share evidence-based strategies to support your wellbeing throughout your academic journey. You’ll learn simple practices to reduce stress, boost energy, and build habits that support long-term success. Plus, discover the campus resources available to help you thrive in graduate school and beyond.

Writing Well in a Time of Change

As the pace of change accelerates in research and academia, the internal and external pressures we face when writing can feel simultaneously familiar and unfamiliar. This session explores what it takes to produce strong, clear scholarly writing while also supporting your professional wellbeing. Together, we’ll reflect on how to sustain both quality and confidence in our writing practices during uncertain times.

Values, Challenges, and Interdisciplinary Teachability
Guest Speaker: Collin Rice, Assistant Professor of Philosophy

This discussion will explore how personal values shape our career and life choices, how we can grow through setbacks, and how building community across disciplines supports our learning, resilience, and impact.

Research Smarter: Resources to Boost your Efficiency
Guest Speakers: Michelle Wilde (CSU Libraries) and Matthew Rhodes (Professor of Psychology) 

Graduate school often requires students to manage large amounts of information.  In this interactive session, you'll be introduced to research-based strategies to help you stay organized, work more efficiently, and reduce overwhelm.

The CSU Libraries provides comprehensive research support services tailored to the needs of graduate students across disciplines. This workshop offers an overview of services and tools from citation management and expert research support to workshops on systematic reviews, R and Python, that can enhance every stage of your research process.

Exploring Virtual Well-Being Services at CSU
Guest Speakers: Experts from CSU Health Network 

Explore virtual tools and strategies designed to support your mental health and overall well-being as you manage the challenges of graduate school and daily life. You will learn accessible, trauma- and resilience-informed practices that promote academic success and can be integrated into both personal and professional settings. The session will also highlight virtual health resources available to you as a graduate student.

Navigating Nutrition as a Graduate Student
Guest Speakers: Nutrition Specialists from the CSU Kendal Reagan Nutrition Center

Learn how to tackle the nutritional challenges graduate students often face. The Nutrition Specialists from the CSU Kendal Reagan Nutrition Center will walk through the challenges they hear most often from clients, such as busy schedules and tight budgets, and offer tips and tricks on how to navigate nutrition during the school year.
