Who are AVID students?

  • AVID students are generally in the academic middle - B, C, and even D students - who have the desire to go to college and the willingness to work hard. 

  • These are students who are capable of completing rigorous curriculum if they are given a little academic or emotional support through their AVID class.

  • They are Level 2 or Level 3 on SBA reading

  • They have good attendance and classroom behavior

  • They are a hard worker, have a positive attitude, and appreciate diverse classroom teammates

  • They may be the first in their families to attend college.

What is required of an AVID Elective student?
If accepted into AVID, I promise to...
  • Enroll in at least one honors or accelerated course
  • Earn and maintain at least a “C” average in every class
  • Demonstrate and maintain positive behavior and attendance in all classes
  • Complete all homework and daily class assignments
  • Commit to remain in the AVID program for the entire year
  • Demonstrate a strong desire to prepare to attend a four-year university, college or trade school directly after high school
  • Participate in class by Writing (including focused notes), Inquiring by asking questions, Collaborating with peers and  teachers, staying Organized by using and maintaining an AVID Binder, and learning to Read with a purpose
