Africa Educates Her Sign-Up
Over 250 million African learners from pre-primary to post-secondary level have been affected by the COVID-19 pandemic related school lockdowns in Africa since April 2020. Nearly 133 million of the learners are girls and women, and the longer schools are closed the higher the risk that half of these female learners will not return to school once normalcy returns and schools reopen. The African Union International Center for Girls & Women's Education in Africa (AU/CIEFFA) is calling upon its partners and all stakeholders working in the education sector within Africa to work together and ensure girls and women in the continent continue learning during and post the COVID-19 pandemic.
Activities lined up for the campaign include high-level webinars, youth social media pop-up conversations, creative calls for submissions and many more. Sign up to be part of these events and activities and let's amplify the call to get girls back to school post COVID-19 related school closures.
Girls & women's education is strategic to the continuous development of Africa but in many cases during and after times of crises, it is girls and women that are forced to forgo their education. The AU/CIEFFA is committed to helping member states to safeguard girls and women's rights and ensure the realization of Agenda 2063.
