Furman Mathematics Summer Research Application
Applications for summer research are due by 5pm on Friday, January 24th, 2020. When needing to distinguish between applications of equal strength, priority will be given to junior (rising senior) Mathematics, Applied Mathematics, and Mathematics-Economics majors, but applications from all Furman students in good standing will be considered. The research topics and number of student research positions may vary by year based off of faculty involvement and student interest. Application decisions will be communicated to students by early February.

If you have a specific project that you're interested in studying, please explain.
Discuss your long term career and/or graduate school goals and how a summer research experience would contribute to them.
If you are pursuing other summer options, explain how summer research fits into your other plans. Also include known summer scheduling conflicts (May X plans, vacation plans, etc.).
Do you have computer programming experience? If so, what languages/software have you used (e.g., Python, Matlab, R)? What courses have you taken or what experiences have you had that involved programming?
Have you had a research experience, either in mathematics or another discipline (typically larger in scope and duration than a class project)? If so, please briefly describe its context and location and explain how an additional summer research experience in mathematics fits into your long-term plans.
List your upper level (beyond MTH-151) mathematics courses taken at Furman and identify which courses most align with your mathematical interests.
If there's anything else you'd like to share as part of your application, but haven't articulated it above, please do so here.
A copy of your responses will be emailed to the address you provided.
