Educational organisations, aquaria, science centres, natural history museums, research centres, zoos, media and NGOs from over 80 countries have cooperated through World Ocean Network.

World Ocean Network works so that participants regularly share experiences in relation to global ocean challenges and implement new common awareness activities, adapted at local level. World Ocean Network participate in regional and international events, organises workshops and puts in place ocean awareness programmes.

United Nations Decade of Ocean Science - 2021/2030
The United Nations has proclaimed a Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development (2021-2030) to support efforts to reverse the cycle of decline in ocean health and gather ocean stakeholders worldwide behind a common framework that will ensure ocean science can fully support countries in creating improved conditions for sustainable development of the Ocean.
World Ocean Network partners with IOC/UNESCO to develop joint education and outreach activities and is willing to facilitate the participation of aquariums, science centers, NGOS... in the Decade program.
In the frame of this Decade, World Ocean Network proposes to support students and young researchers to attend scientific conferences.
Citizen of the Ocean
World Ocean Network have created the Citizen of the Ocean Programme, to foster ocean awareness among citizens of the world. Any people willing to become a Citizen of the Ocean can ask a "passport of the Citizen of the Ocean" to World Ocean Network or one of its partners and join the community on Facebook (@citizenoftheocean).
Citizens of the Ocean commit to develop a responsible behaviour toward the ocean and inform others on the ocean’s role for the Blue Planet and humankind.
Climate Change and High Seas negociations
As consultative party of United Nations ECOSOC, World Ocean Network attends international negociations process on Climate Change and High Seas.
World Ocean Day
The World Ocean Day, first proposed during the Earth Summit in Rio in 1992, was officially proclaimed by the United Nations’ General Assembly in 2008 thanks to the lobbying action of the World Ocean Network and its partners. Since then, every year, thousands of organisations in more than 80 countries organise activities to reach millions of people, engaging the general public, decision makers and media on the major role the ocean plays for our planet.
For World Ocean Day, World Ocean Network have developped communication material, joined forces with IOC/UNESCO to develop an online portal dedicated to it, and promote every year the Photo contest of United Nations.

World Ocean Network and its partners have developed several educational tools on marine subjects, such as ocean and human health, marine litter, citizens daily actions...
Youth Forum 2021
WON also promote the international youth forum to be organized on the occasion of the 2021 International Aquarium Congress in Nausicaa, Boulogne-sur-mer, France.
