The Autism Alliance of Michigan (AAoM) strives to protect and serve families in Michigan that are caring for those with autism. Our Safety Program is aimed at targeting the unique behavioral needs that can affect one's safety. One of the most significant needs we see in our community is
elopement - wandering or bolting.
To address this need, AAoM offers its GPS Scholarship to families and individuals in Michigan experiencing elopement. Along with our vendor partner, AAoM will provide a wearable GPS device and 1 year of paid service to eligible applicants. Eligibility for the scholarship is based on the needs experienced by the individual, and the presented financial need.
While wearable GPS devices can aid in the short term needs of elopement, AAoM recommends that families ensure they are connected with appropriate service providers to better asses the function behind elopement, and to develop a plan to treat the need for a long term support. If you need support in identifying provider options, please select the option to get connected with a Navigator for resource identification.
Please complete and submit the below form for entrance into the GPS Scholarship. Our staff will follow up with you directly based on your eligibility status and for any needed next steps.
