Thank you for your interest in the 3-day retreat at the Koh Samui International Meditation Center. This retreat will be run in English by the team of teaching monks from the Pa Pae Meditation Retreat.  Please read all of the information below carefully before proceeding to the next section.

General Info
The retreat will focus on meditation instruction and practice (typically 30-40 min sitting sessions), wisdom teachings, and opportunities for Q & A.

This retreat is open to both those who would like to stay overnight and have breakfast and lunch with us in addition to those who would simply like to show up to join the meditation sessions and return home afterwards. You can show up at whichever sessions that fit into your schedule. However, we do ask that you arrive at least 15 minutes before the session so that you can make it to the meditation hall in time to avoid disrupting others.

Late Arrivals/ Walk-Ins
If you arrive during the middle of a session, you are welcome to sit for personal meditation or have a chat with one of our monks at a separate area designated for such activities. Meditation mats will be provided.

Important to Avoid
Please avoid pointing the bottoms of your feet towards Buddha images, monks or pictures of monks. In Thai culture, this is a gesture of disrespect. Thank you in advance for your cooperation.

Arrival/Registration Guidelines
We ask that all participants please do their best to arrive between 9:00am-9:30am on the first day of the retreat, to ensure that the registration process can be completed before the commencement of the retreat at 11:00am
In order to cover the cost of food, utilities, accommodations, and other service costs, the cost is 600baht per person per night. This fee will be collected at registration.

If you are simply stopping by and not staying the night or eating with us, you can join free of charge. Feel free to make a donation if you would like to contribute to the center.
If you decide to stay with us instead of just coming and going, you will be provided with 2 meals a day (breakfast and lunch) and some light refreshments in the evening time. This is the eating schedule followed by monks and individuals seeking to deepen their spiritual practice. This type of eating schedule helps support your meditation practice and ability to sleep better and wake up feeling more refreshed. If you have any dietary restrictions, please let us know in the "personal information" section that follows.

What To Bring
In order to maintain an environment of respect for Thai Buddhist culture and mindfulness to allow everyone to focus their energy internally, we ask that you please arrive in appropriate attire that is not too revealing. This means that tank tops, short shorts or low cut t-shirts for ladies should be avoided. Thank you in advance for your cooperation.

If you are staying with us throughout the retreat, we will provide you with 2 pairs of white pants and 2 pairs of white shirts which we ask you to wear for the remainder of the retreat. White clothes help you to be more mindful, because they can get dirty easily. Also, it helps you to reduce the amount of attention you pay to how you or others around you are dressed since everyone will dress in the same, modest fashion. If you would like to bring a sweater, a hat, or any other clothes that you would like to stay warm, please feel free to do so.

Also if you would like to be free from your phone, you may bring your own personal alarm clock or watch with you so that you can keep the time in that way. Please also bring your own personal towel and toiletries and some swimwear if you wish to bathe in the hot springs.
For the sake of fostering a sense of community and allowing the building of strong spiritual relationships with others, it is not mandatory to remain silent during this retreat. However, if you wish to remain silent for the entire retreat or for a small portion of it, we do have a silent badge that you are welcome to wear in order to communicate to others your wish to remain silent.

Regardless of your intention, we do ask that you remain mindful of your noise level and conversation topics out of consideration of those seeking to meditate and rest in a peaceful environment. There will be areas, especially close to the meditation hall and sleeping area where more silence is important for all to follow.
