JOB DESCRIPTION: Enterprise Assistant  - Fabrics workshop

Hours: Full time (35 hours) per week - 12 month contract starting in January 2024

Location: Seaman's Hall in Nairn

Pay: Living wage

Purpose of role: 

1.To lead the development and growth of the fabrics workshop at Seaman's hall into a volunteer led sustainable social enterprise under the Green Hive brand.

2.To identify and nurture sales related partnerships with suppliers of fabrics and demand from local shops and customers for our fabrics products.

3.To increase the weight of fabric waste recycled into new product and kept from landfill.

4.To support the work of the Operations Officer at Seaman’s Hall in the management of the hall space and the safety of volunteers; in volunteers’ development and learning; and in the creation of fabrics products. 

Management and support

You will report directly to and be supported by the Chief Operations Officer but also work closely with the support of the Operations Officer for Seaman’a Hall where this job is based. You will be providing support to our fabrics volunteers and to the hall volunteers generally.


You will be supported with training opportunities and our aim will be to help you to gain new skills and experiences that will enable you to be a confident employee in this or future roles.  Future roles for assistants can include progressing through promotion to Officer roles in the organisation.

Main responsibilities: 

  • Planning and facilitating fabrics production and upcycling at our fabrics workshop in Seaman’s hall through 1:1 and group workshop activity

  • Ensure the fabrics workshop, building, equipment and volunteers are safe, and that risks are suitably managed 

  • Assist volunteers in learning to operate fabrics workshop equipment and support them in developing their skills and confidence, including those with barriers to participation 

  • Work with the Operations Officer and Volunteer and Events Officer where necessary 

  • Develop supply and demand sales partnerships with local fabric businesses and shops

  • Working with other members of staff, raise Green Hive’s positive profile in the community 

  • Contribute to the development of Green Hive as a team, including our strategy, and of the Seaman’s Hall into a sustainable community hub

This contract is for 12 months but we anticipate the successful candidate will be able to sustain this role beyond the funding through a social enterprise model.
