Speech & Debate Camp Staff Application
*All Educational Leader positions have been filled as of June 8th. Any applications for Educational Leader will be waitlisted. Please note that we are still accepting Team Counselor applications. 


This application is for persons who wish to join us as paid staff for the fifth annual Florida Speech & Debate Camp series hosted by the Florida Debate Initiative and Florida Civics and Debate Initiative. There are two camps: 
  • Middle School will be held in Fruitland Park, FL from June 15 - June 19
  • High School will be held in Marianna, Florida from June 29 - July 3
Full descriptions can be found in the 2026 camp staff recruitment packet. Please be sure to thoroughly read that packet prior to submitting this application as positions have changed from years past

MIDDLE SCHOOL
  • Educational Leader - $1300: Ed leaders must be 21+ and have served as an educator previously. Ed leaders will be provided with lesson plans and materials. 
  • Team Counselor - $700 with up to $150 bonus available: Team Counselors must be 18 y.o. as of June 1, 2026. Team Counselors should have speech / debate competition experience as well as other leadership / work experience. 
  • Clinic Assistant - $1500: Must be an RN, LPN, CNA, MA, EMT, or Paramedic with prior experience. Preference given to those with experience working in a school/camp setting. 
  • Transportation Staff: $350 - Transportation staff must be 25+. Transportation Staff retrieve a rented van/small bus from a regional outpost the evening of June 14 or the early morning of June 15 and transport 12-20 students directly to Fruitland Park on June 15th. Then, transportation staff return students to the regional stop on June 19th and the vehicle to its origin site. Staff must have a clean driving record. Transportation staff may also serve in one of the other capacities above.
  • All staff may be asked to bunk in multiple occupancy room with another adult staffer of the same biological sex. *All staff (except transportation staff) should consider their work hours to be as needed from June 15th at 1pm -June 19th at 1pm. All meals from dinner on June 15th - breakfast on June 19th are included. At least 1 training meeting will be scheduled prior to camp. Additional training may be required depending on role and experience. 
HIGH SCHOOL 
  • Educational Leader - $1300: Ed leaders must be 21+ and have served as an educator previously. Ed leaders will be provided with lesson plans and materials. 
  • Team Counselor - $700 with up to $150 bonus available: Team counselors must be 21+ as of June 1, 2026. Team Counselors should have speech / debate competition experience as well as other leadership / work experience. Team counselors sleep in a large bunk room with 5-20 high school campers of the same biological sex. Bathrooms are community community-style. 
  • Clinic Assistant - $1500: Must be an RN, LPN, CNA, MA, EMT, or Paramedic with prior experience. Preference given to those with experience working in a school/camp setting. 
  • Transportation: $250 - Transportation staff must be 21+. Transportation Staff arrive at the assigned regional bus stop 90 minutes prior to departure on June 29th, ride the bus to camp with students, facilitate all stops including the procurement of meals, attendance, collection of paperwork, and student supervision. Transportation staff return with students (same expectations as above for the return trip) to the regional stop on July 3 and remain at the stop until the last student is retrieved by a parent/guardian or local police (expect to stay no later than 45 minutes after arrival). 
  • All staff may be asked to bunk in multiple occupancy room with another adult staffer of the same biological sex. Team Counselors will bunk with campers. All staff will share community bathrooms. *All staff (except transportation staff) should consider their work hours to be as needed from June 29th at 1pm -July 3rd at 1pm. All meals from dinner on June 29th - breakfast on July 3 are included. At least 1 training meeting will be scheduled prior to camp. Additional training may be required depending on role and experience. 
Travel Reimbursement: 
The maximum travel reimbursement is $125.00 pending successful completion of required documentation.
