Description
Issa Manalo Lopez is a theatre-maker-teacher- filmmaker who recently started creating performances that address socio-political issues. Through her works, done in collaboration with other independent artists, she wishes to engage communities by framing questions that start discourse and provoke action. It is her goal to do works that allow people to see theatre as necessary and effective in contexts that do not traditionally incorporate performance.
Her current works include directing “KAPIT: a docu-theatre project that dramatizes the experiences of SuperTyphoon Yolanda survivors” part of the Main Program of Karnabal Festival 2015, The Virgin Labfest’s “Talo Ang Walang Alam”, “Balunbalunan, Bingibingihan” and “My Padir is an OCW”- plays that deal with issues of poverty, Ateneo Playwright Series “Kubkob”- a play about the plight of the FQS students who fled to the hills and took up arms during the martial law years.
