Death By Delivery Special Screening and Panel Discussion RSVP
This event co-hosted by FIU Herbert Wertheim College of Medicine, the Southern Birth Justice Network, and the National Black Midwives Alliance as part of the Black Mamas Matter Alliance’s Black Maternal Health Week will feature a screening and panel discussion of Death by Delivery, a documentary highlighting the alarmingly high rates of black maternal mortality in the US. The panel will feature a diverse range of workers and advocates, including a midwife, doula, obstetrician, and epidemiologist to discuss the multiple systemic barriers black communities face to receive comparable care. The goal of the event is to highlight the ways in which the medical community can support efforts lead by black women to decrease maternal mortality and improve the experience of black moms. All members of the Florida International University and the South Florida community at large are welcome at this event! Food will be provided on a first come first served basis.
