About Queer Diary 🌈📖

Queer Diary is a night that invites LGBTQIA+ people to share something from their teens for a live audience.

When we say queer - we mean this to be inclusive of all LGBTQIA+ communities & people.

Why?

Queer Diary was created to make space for LGBTQIA+ folks to bond over our shared (and wildly varied) coming-of-age experiences.

Reading your teenage secrets aloud might sound scary, but it can be funny, exhilarating, and empowering. It's a chance to feel recognised, to connect with your younger-self, with other people. It's often hilarious.

What to share?

🌈 QUEER - It's a night for queer people. What you share does not need to be about queerness
Many of us grew up with no idea we were LGBTQIA+, did not have the language to write about 'queer stuff', or didn't feel safe doing so. Bring whatever you wrote. Please don't worry about it being 'queer enough'.

👶 TEENAGE - As a general guideline. You can read something from when you were a kid, or a young adult. As long as it's from your "coming-of-age" era - not something you wrote recently.

✏️ DIARIES - Again, a suggestion - really, we love anything written in your youth!
Not just diaries. We welcome all youthful scribblings - poetry, fanfic, artwork, tumblr posts, homework, songs, emails, letters, etc.

Our Story

Queer Diary started in 2020 (on zoom!). In 2021 we held our first in-person events in London. We now run a mix of events in queer-friendly spaces (pubs, theatres, community venues) across the UK, with regular nights in London.

Queer Diary is created and hosted by Beth Watson, who's also currently working on a theatre show called Hasbian (which is based on, you guessed it - teenage diaries!). Our producer is Josephine Shipp.
