Joplin Parents as Teachers is a FREE home visiting program offered through the Joplin School District. It is designed to provide parents with early childhood information to help build their children’s intellectual, language, social, and physical development. Joplin School District residents and their children are eligible to participate in the program from prenatal to kindergarten entry. We offer home visits, developmental screenings, family group activities and connections to community resources.
What’s involved in a home visit? Visits are scheduled at a convenient time and place for both the family and parent educator. During home visits, parent educators share development information and ideas based on the child’s age, discuss parenting concerns, and share fun activities that help parents and children play together. Home visits are also a chance for parents to share what their child has been doing, ask questions and follow up on ideas the parent educator has offered. Parent educators encourage and support the parent in their parenting journey.
