Organizational Endorsement of the Submission to the UN Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights regarding WSP Operations on the Jerusalem Light Rail Connecting Illegal Settlements in the Occupied Palestinian Territory

Organization are invited to join in supporting this submission to have WSP added to the United Nations Database of Businesses Involved in Israel’s Illegal Settlement Enterprise.

Considering WSP’s involvement in serious violations of international law, particularly in occupied and annexed East Jerusalem, Al-Haq and Just Peace Advocates, as well as 105 organizations and 107 individuals, including three former UN Special Rapporteurs, Michael Lynk, John Dugard and Richard Falk, along with Noam Chomsky and Roger Waters, on September 15, 2022 called on the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) to

Consider the involvement of WSP in serious violations of international law, particularly in occupied and annexed East Jerusalem, we call on the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) to:

1. Update the UN database annually, as part of the OHCHR’s duty to fulfil the mandate of Human Rights Council resolution 31/36 (2016) in its entirety. By realizing the annual update of the UN database, the OHCHR reaffirms its independence and impartiality to fulfilling its mandates, and demonstrates its commitment to uphold human rights standards, and the rule of law and justice.

2. List WSP in the upcoming update and report of the UN database on the grounds that the extension of the JLR network amounts to “provision of services and utilities supporting the maintenance and existence of settlements, including transport”; one of the economic activities that raise particular human rights concerns and that are explicitly taken into account by the UN database.

3. Continue to exert the necessary efforts to ensure transparency and promote accountability for business activities in the occupied Palestinian territory as well as other situations of occupation and conflict, to counter the pervasive impunity stemming from corporate-related violations and grave breaches of international law in such contexts.
