WonderWorks considers the applicant’s transcript a key part of his or her academic profile. In general, we look for challenging coursework with a grade point average of at least 3.3 (B+) in all relevant core courses, though exceptions may be made in the cases of recent English language learners or in other appropriately-documented special circumstances.
Nationally-normed standardized test scores are a generally accepted indicator of college readiness. As a rule of thumb, Wonderworks is looking for students who at least score in the top quartile compared to other test takers nationwide on one or both parts of the PSAT or its ACT equivalent(s).
WonderWorks recognizes that not all high schools offer the same support for AP courses and testing. So while an applicant’s success on AP tests is a matter of collateral interest, the absence of AP courses and test results will in no way adversely affect consideration of an application for Wonderworks’ summer programs.
Please be aware that the academic content of Wonderworks’ precollege programs and its methods of instruction closely resemble what one would expect to find at a good four-year college or university. In order to perform well in Wonderworks, students should already have outgrown or almost outgrown high school intellectually and should exhibit a corresponding level of maturity and initiative.
