Background
The Mississippi Arts + Entertainment Experience (The MAX) celebrates Mississippi's cultural legacy and nurtures future creatives. Visitors enter through the Hall of Fame rotunda, encircling them with outstanding examples of Mississippi's global impact on arts and entertainment. The second level houses our permanent exhibition, with immersive experiences which are organized by theme (e.g., the land, home, community) and address all creative disciplines (from visual art to music, writing, culinary arts, and theater). However, many of our thousands of visitors each year remain unaware of the massive exhibition upstairs, missing a core part of the center’s impact.
Project
The MAX seeks qualifications from Mississippi artists and designers of all types to design and produce an original, visually striking installation(s) that bookend the entrance and exit of the permanent exhibition. The completed installation will wrap around the main entrance to the exhibit space with two components:
- A design that incorporates the words “enter here” for the primary entrance to the permanent exhibition. The available space wraps around the main entrance and may spill onto surrounding areas, within reason (e.g., the floor and the wall to the right of the entrance). Excluding the doors, this area is roughly 11’8” x 16’, as shown below.
- A second and/or third component will bookend the permanent exhibits with an installation at the exhibition's exit. These walls are roughly 29’ x 13’6” and 42'x16', also shown below.
Eligibility
Mississippi-based creatives of any age with strong skills in graphic design, folk art, visual art, and/or installations are encouraged to submit their qualifications. “Mississippi creatives” are those with deep ties to the state who have spent a substantial part of their life and/or career in Mississippi. Applicants need not currently reside in state.
