We are seeking workshops from individuals of African American, Caribbean, African, or other descents from the Diaspora only.Priority will be given to local presenters of Gullah Geechee ancestry and local First Nation/Indigenous ancestry first. It is important that the representation of the information being disseminated resembles the community that we inhabit and serve. We will not be considering workshops with duo presenters.
We will choose workshops that our committee feels best fit the theme of the conference. If you would like to present a workshop, complete the application below in it's entirety. Incomplete applications will not be considered. Please note that by completing this application it does not denote that your application has been approved. You will receive notification if your workshop has been approved.
A gratitude stipend of $150 will be paid to each presenter (per workshop) and your conference registration for both days will be covered FOR YOU ONLY (there are no plus ones). We will not offer additional reimbursement for travel, lodging or materials. You will be responsible for those items yourself. No materials will be copied on site, please bring what you need. All workshops are One hour and 15 minutes in length and you are expected to utilize the whole session. All workshops are taught outside in tents and are no-tech. There will be no virtual option this year, all workshops will be in person, and your attendance in person will be required in order to be compensated. You will be compensated at the end of the day that your workshop is presented.
We will be recording all workshops through audio. We look to sell the recordings after the conference to those who may not be able to attend. We plan to offer a 60/40 split on each sale to each teacher per workshop. You do have the option to opt out of having your workshop recorded, please make that selection on the application.
This year the gathering will be two days and workshops will begin sharply at 10:00 am. on each day. Please don't apply if you know that you will not be able to teach in person at the event. If you are accepted to teach and are a no-show (besides a personal/family emergency), will not be invited to participate in future Gullah Geechee Herbal Gatherings as a presenter. There will be limited opportunities to be a back-up instructor, which would entail you being onsite, ready to present in case a workshop presenter is a no show. Please annotate on the application if you are willing to be considered as a back-up instructor.
Limited vendor opportunities will be available for presenters, please indicate on your application that you are interested in vending. If approved as a workshop presenter, you will receive more guidance on the vending opportunity.
Thank you for your interest in the Gullah Geechee Herbal Gathering, we are so excited to have you potentially be a part of this amazing event. Again please be reminded that while your completion of this application puts you in consideration on our potential teacher list, it does not guarantee a slot in the current event or future events. You will be contacted upon completion of your application of receipt, if your workshop is accepted, if you are chosen as a back up instructor, if your workshop is not accepted, of if you have been considered for future opportunities by the teacher co-ordinator. Please limit emails to us until you receive correspondence.
