ABOUT THE AMY PROJECT
The AMY Project (Artists Mentoring Youth) produces performing arts programming for young women and non-binary youth through free, barrier-free mentorship-focused programs. AMY breaks down barriers to participation by providing meals and transportation; accessible, queer and trans inclusive and anti-racist environments; and more. With the mentorship of professional artists, AMY participants learn to tell their stories with honesty, integrity, and artistic rigour. The AMY Project is the winner of the 2017 Toronto Arts Foundation Arts for Youth Award.

WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR
We are seeking collaboration from artists working in the performing arts across skills and disciplines (i.e. playwriting, direction, storytelling, dramaturgy, theatre design, production management, songwriting/music composition, dance, physical theatre, movement, spoken word, etc). There are opportunities for artists to work with AMY in a variety of ways, including working on productions, facilitating workshops with youth, and one-on-one mentoring with youth. We look for mentors with professional profiles that include actors, directors, playwrights, designers, artistic leaders, performers of other stage disciplines, and producers. It is essential that all artists working with AMY be committed to supporting an anti-racist, queer-positive, trans-positive, mixed ability-positive, inclusive environment. Previous experience working with youth is not required but is a huge plus.
As it is important to our programming that youth have the opportunity to learn about life as a professional artist, we seek to work with artists who are sufficiently established in their field. Usually this means at least 5+ years of professional experience. We understand "professional" means a spectrum of things, and does not necessarily have to include post-secondary training or ongoing full-time artistic employment.
We actively seek to work with artists who come from the same communities and experiences as our participants and will prioritize applications from artists who identify as being from from multiple of the following groups: women, gender non-binary, Black, Indigenous, People of Colour, LGBTQ2SIA, people with disabilities, immigrants/newcomers, from working class backgrounds.
All artists will receive training and support with regards to youth work and mentorship.
CALL FOR CO-DIRECTOR
We are in particular looking for a co-director for our 2019 Theatre Program. The ideal candidate will have: at least five years of professional theatre experience, an active professional directing practice; experience visioning and facilitating devised theatre; experience facilitating youth theatre and/or community-engaged theatre, and lived experience in one or multiple of the communities AMY serves. It is essential for the candidate to have the skills and experience to support an anti-racist, trans-positive, queer-positive, mixed-ability-positive space. This contract pays approximately $4000 and requires availability Monday evenings January-April, additional availability during late April and early May, three weeks of rehearsal in late July/early August, and additional meetings and prep time as needed.
INTERESTED IN GETTING INVOLVED?
Please continue with this form, which should take 15-30 minutes to complete. We encourage you to provide detailed answers - the more we are able to understand you, your work, and why you are interested in being a part of AMY, the better.
If we think you and AMY might be a good match for the 2019 season, we'll be in touch sometime this fall.
Our yearly artist roster is designed to match, among other things, the needs and interests of the given group of participants, and that can vary a little or a lot from year to year. If it doesn't work for us to collaborate in 2019, please stay in touch!
