The Rutgers Brain Health Institute (BHI) is embarking on a planning and priority setting process to chart a course that will guide the Institute’s growth and success for years to come. We value the perspectives and insights of our faculty, post docs, students, residents, fellows and staff. Your input will be crucial in helping us refine our priorities for the next strategic plan.

To begin, we are requesting your insights and observations regarding our mission, vision, and core values. Your responses to the four following questions will help to inform how we best serve our members, engage with one another, and pursue our core areas of focus as an Institute. Please complete this survey by Friday, February 9, 2024. Your responses are anonymous and no identifiable information will be collected.

1. A mission statement describes what the organization does and its primary purpose for existence.

• Create research programs focused on understanding the biological underpinnings of the central nervous system’s function and dysfunction

2. A vision statement describes what the organization aspires to be in the future.

Consider the current BHI mission statement and an alternative AI-informed vision statement drafted from data collected from the attendees of the 9th Annual BHI Symposium held on November 30, 2023:

(1) Current vision statement: The BHI will develop neuroscience at Rutgers to become a highly translational and internationally preeminent research enterprise, to advance new treatments for debilitating nervous system disorders. We are dedicated to integrating cutting-edge basic and clinical research, developing robust educational programs, enhancing scientific collaborations, and providing state-of-the-art infrastructure for brain research.

(2) AI-informed Vision Statement from the Brainstorming session at the symposium: To be a globally recognized hub for world-class neuroscience research at Rutgers and beyond that advances high-quality translational brain research by fostering inclusive collaboration across diverse disciplines, leading in innovation and personalized treatments, and training for the next generation of neuroscience leaders.
