JALT International - Language Teaching in a Global Age: Shaping the Classroom, Shaping the WorldTsukuba, Ibaraki (Epochal Tsukuba)November 17-20
LEARNER DEVELOPMENT FORUM (Application Deadline: May 1st, 2017)
International Communities: Fostering Learner Development on a Global Stage In the global age, it could be argued that an outward-looking mindset would be an invaluable tool that would embolden students to participate in a worldwide community of English speakers. The teacher can play a role in promoting notions of international awareness, and dialogue with the world outside of Japan. However, if these ideas are to be truly ‘owned’ by students, learners must find their place in the global community. The Learner Development SIG Forum at JALT 2017 is based on the theme of fostering international mindsets through classroom-based and autonomous learning and is seeking presentations in this area. Presentations could be based on completed or ongoing research in this area or practical teaching ideas from a range of teaching and learning contexts.
GRANTS The Learner Development SIG offers a variety of grants for members, including grants to support attendance at the JALT CALL Conference. See the grants homepage for further details: http://ld-sig.org/grants/
COMPLETING THE PROPOSAL Applicants are asked to carefully consider their topics as they relate the theme. Applicants who best reflect this theme will be given priority. In some situations, applicants might be asked to re-submit their abstracts to better reflect the theme.
Please complete the application, including a title and an abstract, by the deadline of Monday, May 1st. English and Japanese submissions are welcome.
