Pursuant to Education Code 45330, an individual seeking employment as a paraeducator (teacher’s aide, instructional assistant, etc.) must either possess an A.A./A.S. degree or higher, have completed two years of college (48 units), or pass an assessment of your knowledge and the ability to assist in instructing reading, writing, and mathematics as appropriate to the responsibility of the position. In order to meet this assessment requirement in Tehama County, TCDE administers the ParaEducator Proficiency Assessment.
The overall assessment must be passed with a score of 70% or higher. If the overall percentage falls under 70%, TCDE will determine which sections the individual did not pass and they will be able to retake those sections at a later date.
If a reasonable accommodation is necessary, please notify Human Resource Services at least 10 days prior to the test.
Assessments are administered the
second Tuesday of each month (unless otherwise noted)
at the Tehama County Department of Education located at 1135 Lincoln Street, Red Bluff, CA 96080.
