Youth & Media: a 4-part workshop for parents
Thursdays, January 30, February 13, 27, March 19 | 6:00-7:30 | Community Room
Attendance for each session is recommended, but not required.
Presented by: Renee Childs, MSW
In August we hosted an introductory workshop for parents on youth & media. Starting in January and continuing into February, Renee will cover those topics in more detail. The new challenges youth face from constant media connection and its effects on social-emotional skills and anxiety. We discuss how this generation has access to much more than any other, including pornography. For solutions, we will go through the evidence-based practice of media literacy, create a family media plan, and discuss how each parent can adapt an ideology that is unique to the character of their child. And maybe most importantly, we go over ways we can start working toward larger-scale solutions as a society.
January 30: •Session 1: Why are we talking about this? Mental health and youth norms
February 13: •Session 2: Reading between the lines: Introduction to media literacy and porn literacy
February 27: •Session 3: Tools to help: increasing your child's self-worth and creating a family media plan
March 19: •Session 4: What about other people's kids? Tools for macro change
